Clydebank Removals

Tenement, tower block and new-build moves along Dumbarton Road, Kilbowie Road and the old shipyard at Queens Quay.

The Titan crane above the river at Clydebank with Queens Quay flats beside it

Clydebank was built by the shipyards and the Singer factory, and its housing tells that story. Dalmuir and Whitecrook still have rows of sandstone and post-war tenements, Kilbowie Road climbs from the shopping centre up to the interwar semis of Radnor Park, and the tower blocks around Dalmuir and Linnvale are among the tallest in the area. Down at the river, the old John Brown's yard under the Titan crane is now Queens Quay with new flats and a health centre on the water.

Removals in Clydebank cover all of that in a single week. A Whitecrook close on Whitecrook Street or Barns Street has a narrow stair and a rear court, the Dalmuir towers depend on a working lift and a booked loading bay, and Queens Quay has a car park height barrier that keeps the van at the kerb.

As a Clydebank removal company we get out on the A814 Dumbarton Road, or the Clyde Tunnel and the Expressway from the South Side, in about 25 minutes from West George Street. Peter will price the job once he has the street, the floor and a rough idea of what you own.

Moving in Clydebank: what we know

Whitecrook, Dalmuir and the tenements

Whitecrook, between the Forth and Clyde Canal and the river, is the tightest part of the town for a van: tenements on Whitecrook Street, Barns Street and Stanford Street with closes off narrow roads and cars parked on both sides. Dalmuir has a mix of surviving sandstone closes on Dumbarton Road and post-war rebuilds with wider stairs. Both have rear courts that are sometimes quicker than the front. We cover the close walls and bring three crew for any flat above the first floor.

Kilbowie, Radnor Park and Parkhall

Kilbowie Road runs uphill from the Clyde Shopping Centre past Singer station and the Kilbowie flats to Radnor Park, where the housing turns to interwar semis and bungalows on Radnor Street, Second Avenue and the streets around Kilbowie Park. Parkhall and Faifley further up are council-built terraces and four-in-a-blocks on hilly streets, and Duntocher has its own old village core. Parking is usually fine but the hills mean the van needs to sit level and the sack truck does more work than usual.

The tower blocks and the shopping centre

Clydebank has several high-rise blocks, including those at Dalmuir and Linnvale, and moving out of one is all about the lift. We ask the concierge or West Dunbartonshire Council housing office to reserve the lift and the loading bay, protect the lift walls and run a two-person shuttle so the van is never idle. Flats around the Clyde Shopping Centre and the Playdrome site have service roads shared with delivery lorries, so early starts avoid the queue.

Queens Quay, the Tunnel and the Erskine Bridge

Queens Quay is the new development on the old shipyard beside the Titan crane, modern flats with underfloor car parks and a height barrier at the ramp. We park at the kerb on Queens Quay Drive and carry through the lobby, with the factor told in advance. For the drive, Dumbarton Road is direct but slow through Yoker and Scotstoun, so from the Southside or Paisley we use the Clyde Tunnel and from Renfrewshire the Erskine Bridge. Clydebank to the city centre is about 25 minutes outside the peaks.

FAQ

Moving in Clydebank: your questions

Can you move me out of a high-rise flat in Dalmuir?
Yes. We do tower block moves regularly and the key is the lift. Ask the concierge or the housing office to reserve it for the morning, and tell Peter the floor so he can allow the time. We pad the lift, shuttle in pairs and keep the van in the loading bay rather than on the road.
Where does the van go for a Whitecrook tenement?
As close to the close as the parked cars allow, which on Whitecrook Street can mean a few doors down. We start early to get the best spot and carry the rest. If your block is on a corner or a bus route, West Dunbartonshire Council can suspend a bay with notice and Peter can explain how.
Do you use the Clyde Tunnel or the Erskine Bridge?
Whichever suits the other end of the move. For the city centre and West End it is Dumbarton Road or the Expressway, for the Southside and the M77 it is the Clyde Tunnel, and for Paisley, Renfrew and Erskine it is the bridge. The crew knows which one is queueing at what time of day.
Are Clydebank prices the same as Glasgow?
Yes. One-bed flats start from £200, two-beds from £300 and three-bed houses from £500. Clydebank is inside our normal working area, so there is no extra travel charge, and Peter quotes a fixed price once he has both addresses and the floor at each end.
Our new flat at Queens Quay has an underground car park. Can you use it?
The height barrier on the ramp rules out our vans, so we work from the kerb outside and carry through the entrance lobby and lift. It adds a little walking rather than any real difficulty, and letting the factor know the date keeps the lobby free for us.
