Removals in Newton Mearns

Large family house moves in Greenlaw, Maidenhill, Broom and Crookfur, planned for the volume they involve.

Modern detached houses with double garages on a new estate in Newton Mearns

Newton Mearns has grown quickly along the M77, and most of the moves we do here are into or out of modern detached houses on the newer estates: Greenlaw and Greenlaw Village near Junction 4, Maidenhill to the south of Mearns Cross, and the developments around Malletsheugh and Barrhead Road. These houses have double garages, four or five bedrooms, en-suites and a lot of furniture bought to fill the space.

Removals in Newton Mearns also take in the older parts of the town: the 1930s art deco houses of the Broom estate, the semis and bungalows of Crookfur and Mearnskirk, and the villas along Ayr Road towards Whitecraigs. Every one of these has a driveway, which makes life easy for the van, but the newer estates have narrow roads, tight corners and cars on both sides once everyone is home.

As a Newton Mearns removal company we are 25 minutes from the city centre down the M77 to Junction 4 or 5, and we spend a lot of time here. Peter is happy to visit a larger house before quoting so the crew, van and time are right on the day.

Moving in Newton Mearns: what we know

Greenlaw and Maidenhill

The estates at Greenlaw, beside the M77 at Junction 4, and Maidenhill, south of Mearns Cross off Ayr Road, are the newest housing in the town. Roads are narrow with tight cul-de-sacs, and once residents are home there are cars on both sides, so we arrive early and ask you to keep the drive clear. Double garages here are usually full of bikes, tools and boxes rather than cars. Internal stairs often turn twice with a half landing, so large wardrobes and king-size beds come apart before they move.

The Broom estate and Whitecraigs

The Broom, between Ayr Road and Broom Road, is a 1930s estate of art deco and inter-war detached houses with wide plots and mature gardens. The houses are big and often full of solid furniture, but the driveways are generous and the roads quiet, so loading is calm. Whitecraigs, on the Giffnock side, is similar with some larger villas on Ayr Road itself, which has a bus lane and no-stopping sections we work around.

Mearns Cross, Crookfur and Mearnskirk

Mearns Cross is the centre of the town, with the Avenue shopping centre and flats above the shops on Ayr Road. Crookfur, to the west, is 1960s and 70s semis and bungalows with driveways, and Mearnskirk is a quieter enclave near the old hospital site with newer houses. Traffic at the Cross builds up at school times because of the number of schools nearby, so we route round it where we can.

The M77 and the Glasgow Southern Orbital

Newton Mearns is the easiest place in the south to reach by motorway. From the Kingston Bridge it is straight down the M77 to Junction 4 for Greenlaw and Crookfur or Junction 5 for Maidenhill and Malletsheugh, around 25 minutes. The A726 Glasgow Southern Orbital links to East Kilbride in ten minutes, and the M77 south to Ayrshire is on the doorstep, so longer-distance moves start quickly.

FAQ

Moving in Newton Mearns: your questions

Will you visit our house in Greenlaw before giving a price?
For four and five-bed houses we would rather see it, yes. The double garage alone can add hours if it is full, and a quick walk round with Peter avoids surprises. Smaller moves are priced over the phone from a room-by-room list.
Can a big removal van get into the Maidenhill estate?
Yes, but the roads are tight and the cul-de-sacs fill with cars in the evening. We aim for an early start and ask you to keep the driveway and the kerb outside clear. If a neighbour's car blocks the turn, a knock on the door the night before usually sorts it.
What does a four-bed house move in Newton Mearns cost?
Three-bed houses start from £500 and four and five-bed detached houses are priced individually after a visit, because the contents vary hugely between homes. Peter will give a fixed figure once he has seen the house.
Do you take king-size beds and wardrobes apart?
Yes, and put them back together at the other end. The turning staircases in most Newton Mearns new-builds make it the only sensible way to move them. Bring the Allen keys if you have them, but we carry our own.
Can you move us from Newton Mearns to Ayrshire or Edinburgh?
Yes. Newton Mearns is on the M77, so Kilmarnock and Ayr are quick, and the M8 for Edinburgh is 20 minutes away. Longer moves are priced on volume and mileage, and Peter will quote a fixed price rather than an hourly rate.
