Removals in Paisley

House and flat moves across Paisley, from High Street tenements to Ralston semis and Thornly Park villas.

Paisley Abbey and the tenements of the High Street in Paisley town centre

Paisley is Scotland's largest town and its housing is as varied as anywhere we go. Around the High Street, Causeyside Street and Broomlands Street there are three-storey tenements much like Glasgow's, with the added twist of a one-way town centre system and a busy bus station. On the slopes of Oakshaw and around Castlehead the streets are steep, cobbled in places and lined with old stone villas. Out towards Ralston, Gallowhill and Glenburn it is classic 1930s to 1960s semis and bungalows with driveways.

Removals in Paisley therefore need a bit of local planning. We know which town centre closes on Wellmeadow Street and Gauze Street back onto lanes we can load from, where the bus lanes on Glasgow Road and Renfrew Road catch people out, and that Oakshaw's gradients are not somewhere to park a loaded van on the hill without chocks.

If you want a Paisley removal company that turns up on time from the Glasgow side, we are 20 minutes away along the M8 to Junction 27 or 29. Peter quotes Paisley moves at the same rates as Glasgow, so there is no penalty for being outside the city.

Moving in Paisley: what we know

Town centre tenements and the one-way system

Paisley's town centre tenements sit on the High Street, Causeyside Street, Broomlands Street and around Wellmeadow. Access is complicated by the one-way loop around Gauze Street, Smithhills Street and Central Road, plus bus lanes and pedestrian sections near the Cross. We work out the approach in advance so the van arrives on the right side of the street first time. Several closes back onto lanes off Storie Street and Orchard Street that make loading far easier than the front door.

Oakshaw, Castlehead and Thornly Park

Oakshaw is the old hill above the Abbey, with the observatory, narrow streets and Georgian and Victorian houses on Oakshaw Street East and West. The gradients are steep and the streets are tight, so we use a smaller van where needed and never leave a loaded van without chocks. Castlehead and Thornly Park to the south have large stone villas on Main Road and Thornly Park Avenue with proper driveways, which makes the van easy to place but the houses take longer to empty.

Ralston, Gallowhill, Glenburn and Foxbar

Most family moves in Paisley are in the suburbs: 1930s semis in Ralston near the Glasgow Road, post-war semis and terraces in Gallowhill by the M8, and larger estates in Glenburn, Foxbar and Charleston to the south and west. Driveways and wide streets are the norm, though some Foxbar and Glenburn roads are steep and parking on the pavement is common, so we leave space for neighbours to get past. Lofts and garages are usually full and count towards the load.

The M8, Gilmour Street and Glasgow Airport

From West George Street it is the M8 westbound to Junction 27 for Ralston and Gallowhill or Junction 29 for the town centre and Glenburn, around 20 minutes in normal traffic. Paisley Gilmour Street station is a useful landmark for the town centre and Renfrew Road brings you round to Braehead and Renfrew in ten minutes. Moves between Paisley and the Southside go via the M8 and M77 or the Hurlet Road, depending on the day.

FAQ

Moving in Paisley: your questions

Do you charge more for Paisley than for Glasgow?
No. Paisley is 20 minutes from our base and we treat it as local. One-bed moves start from £200, two-beds from £300 and three-bed houses from £500, the same as in the city.
Can the van get to a town centre close in Paisley?
Usually, with planning. The one-way system means we approach from the correct direction, and several closes have rear lanes. Where the only option is a loading bay on the High Street, Renfrewshire Council can suspend parking bays with notice, and Peter can tell you whether that is worth doing for your close.
Do you move people from Paisley into Glasgow?
Every week. Paisley to the West End is a run along the M8 and through the Clyde Tunnel or over the Kingston Bridge, and Paisley to the Southside is the M8 and M77. Journey time is rarely more than half an hour either way.
Are there any streets in Paisley you cannot get a big van into?
A few of the older lanes on Oakshaw and around the Abbey are too tight for a Luton, so we use a smaller van and make more trips. If you are on one of these, tell Peter when you book and he will plan for it rather than discovering it on the day.
Can you help clear a house in Paisley as part of a move?
Yes. If you are downsizing from a family home in Ralston or Thornly Park and need unwanted furniture taken away, we can take it to the recycling centre or a charity as part of the job. Tell Peter what needs to go and it will be built into the quote.
