Apartment Removals Glasgow

Modern developments, concierge desks and booked lifts, from the Broomielaw to Glasgow Harbour.

Movers loading a padded lift with boxes in the lobby of a modern riverside apartment block in Glasgow

Glasgow's newer apartment blocks are a different job from a tenement. There is usually a lift, which helps, but it has to be booked, padded and shared with residents who also want to use it. There is a concierge or factor with rules about move times, a loading bay that may be underground with a height limit, and a fob or code for every door between the street and your flat. The move is easier on the back and harder on the admin.

Clyde Movers regularly moves apartments at Glasgow Harbour, the Broomielaw, Lancefield Quay, the Merchant City, Speirs Wharf and the developments around Finnieston and the SEC. Peter asks about the lift dimensions, the loading bay and the block's move-in rules before quoting, so nothing is discovered on the day.

We keep the lift padded, the lobby floor covered and the loading bay clear, which keeps the concierge on side and the move on time.

What’s included

  • Coordination with the factor or concierge for lift bookings and move slots

  • Boxes and packing available beforehand
  • Evening and weekend moves where the block permits
  • Goods in transit cover available, ask Peter for details

Lifts, fobs and concierge rules

Most modern blocks allow moves only within set hours, often 9am to 5pm on weekdays, with some permitting Saturdays. The lift must usually be booked in advance, sometimes with a refundable deposit against damage, and some blocks require proof of the removal company's insurance. We handle the paperwork side and ask for the block's rules when you book.

On the day the crew needs a fob or a resident to open each door, so plan to be there or to leave a fob with the concierge. Lifts in older 2000s developments can be small: a standard double mattress often has to be bent, and some wardrobes go up the stair instead.

Loading bays and van height

Underground car parks and loading bays in developments along the Clyde often have a height limit of around 2.1m, which rules out a Luton van. In those cases we either use a lower van and make more trips, or load from the street outside with a bay suspension. Glasgow Harbour, Lancefield Quay and the Broomielaw all have their quirks, and Peter knows which blocks the Luton fits and which it does not. If the block has a designated moving bay, ask the concierge how it is booked and whether it is timed.

City-centre developments and street loading

Merchant City and Blythswood Hill apartments often have no bay at all, so loading happens on a street with restrictions. Glasgow City Council bay suspensions cover this, and weekend moves are simpler because many restrictions relax. Lobbies in converted Victorian warehouses and former office buildings can be narrow with heavy fire doors, and some have a step at the entrance that needs a ramp for trolleys. We check these on the walk-through and bring runners and door wedges. Neighbours in these blocks tend to be close, so we keep noise down and the corridor clear.

How it works

How we handle apartment removals in Glasgow

  1. Check the block

Tell Peter the development and floor, and forward any move-in rules from the factor. He asks about the lift size, loading bay height and whether the block needs a deposit or a booking form completed.

  2. Book the slot

Most blocks want the lift booked and a two or three-hour window agreed. We fit the crew arrival to that window and confirm it back to you in writing so the concierge has it too.

  3. Move day

The crew pads the lift, lays runners in the lobby, and moves boxes and furniture in lift loads while a second mover stages items at the flat. Anything too big for the lift goes up the stair.

  4. Hand over

We leave the lift, lobby and bay as we found them, rebuild beds and place furniture in your new apartment. If the block requires a sign-off from the concierge, we get it before we go.

FAQ

Apartment removals questions

Do I need to book the lift?
Almost always. Contact your factor or concierge with the date and rough times and ask for the lift to be reserved and padded. Many blocks need 48 hours or more. Tell Peter the slot and we will time the crew to it.
Will your van fit in the underground car park?
Often not; most have a height limit around 2.1m and a Luton is taller. We ask about the bay when quoting and either bring a lower van or load from the street. Do not assume the bay works until we have checked it.
Can you move me in the evening?
Only if the block allows it. Many limit moves to daytime hours; some allow Saturdays. Check the rules with your factor and we will fit the move to what is permitted rather than risk being turned away.
What if my sofa does not fit in the lift?
It goes up the stair. Modern stairwells are usually wider than tenement stairs, and sofas with removable legs generally clear them. We plan this beforehand from a photo and the lift dimensions so there is no surprise.
Do you cover riverside developments outside the centre?
Yes. Glasgow Harbour, Pacific Quay, the blocks around Finnieston and the SEC, and the canalside developments at Speirs Wharf and Maryhill Locks are regular jobs for us. Tell us the block name and we will know the drill.
