Long-Distance Removals from Glasgow

From Glasgow to Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Manchester, London or anywhere in between, planned and priced as one fixed job.

A Clyde Movers Luton van heading south on a motorway with rolling hills either side

A long-distance move is a different job from a hop across Glasgow. The van is on the road for hours, the keys are being handed over in two different cities, and there is no popping back for the thing you forgot. Clyde Movers moves people from Glasgow to Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness every month, and regularly south to Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham and London. Peter plans each one around the distance, the volume and the key timing rather than a standard template.

The pricing is straightforward. We work out the volume from a video walk-through, add the mileage and any overnight, and give you one fixed written price. Smaller loads can go as a part-load on a shared run for considerably less. Our vans are Euro 6, so the clean air zones in Manchester, Birmingham and London do not add a surprise charge.

We have dedicated pages for our most common runs to Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen, Manchester and London, with route notes, timings and guide prices for each. For anywhere else in the UK, ring Peter and he will quote it the same way.

What’s included

  • Fixed written price covering crew, van, fuel, tolls and any overnight
  • Two or three movers with a Luton or long-wheelbase van, or two vans for full homes
  • Everything blanket wrapped and strapped so nothing shifts on the motorway
  • Secure overnight parking for the loaded van on two-day moves
  • Part-load and shared-run option for one-bed flats and smaller
  • Advice on parking suspensions, lift bookings and clean air zones at the destination
  • Goods in transit cover for the whole journey, ask Peter for details

How long-distance pricing works

Two things drive the price: how much space your belongings take in the van and how far we drive. Volume sets the crew and van size, mileage sets the fuel and the hours, and a two-day move adds a secure overnight and accommodation for the crew. Peter puts the whole thing into one written figure so there is nothing added on the day. As a rough scale, a one-bed flat starts from about £400 to Edinburgh, £500 to Dundee, £600 to Aberdeen, £700 to Manchester and £900 to London with a dedicated van.

A part-load means your things share a van with another customer's going the same way, and the mileage is shared too. It brings a London one-bed down to around £600, in exchange for some flexibility on dates.

One day or two, and the overnight

Edinburgh, Dundee and usually Aberdeen are same-day moves. Manchester and Newcastle are same-day with an early start for flats and smaller houses. London, Birmingham and anything beyond four hours of driving are normally two days for a family home, loading on day one and unloading first thing on day two when streets are quiet and the crew is fresh. Peter recommends the plan that fits your volume and key timing rather than the one that sounds fastest.

On a two-day move the loaded van is locked, alarmed and parked in a secure yard or monitored location overnight, and your load is never split between vehicles. Goods in transit cover runs for the whole journey including that night.

Key handover across two cities

The hardest part of a long-distance move is often not the driving but the keys. You are leaving one property, possibly with a buyer or landlord waiting, and collecting keys for another hours away, often from a solicitor or letting agent who closes at five. We plan around the later of the two handovers, aim to have you out of the old place with time to spare, and time our arrival to the realistic key time rather than the hoped-for one. If a landlord or agent will release keys to us with your written permission, we can unload without you being there, which helps when you are travelling by train.

How it works

How we handle long-distance removals in Glasgow

  1. Walk-through and route plan

Send Peter a video of your home. He works out the volume, checks access at both ends, looks at the drive time and tells you whether the job is one day or two. You get one fixed written price, and the option of a part-load if the volume suits.

  2. Sort both ends

We tell you what the destination needs: a parking suspension from the council, a lift booking with a concierge, or nothing at all. You confirm the key arrangements in both cities and we plan the day around the later of the two handovers.

  3. Load and drive

The crew starts early, wraps and straps everything, and loads so the essentials come off first. We text you from the road with an honest arrival time. On two-day moves the van is locked, alarmed and parked securely overnight with the load untouched.

  4. Unload and settle

We carry everything to the rooms you name, rebuild beds and wardrobes, and check the van is empty before heading back. If keys are late at the far end we hold the load and unload first thing, at a cost agreed before we set off.

FAQ

Long-distance removals questions

Which cities do you cover from Glasgow?
Anywhere in mainland UK. Our regular runs are Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness in Scotland, and Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham and London in England, but we have moved people to Cornwall, Norfolk and the Highlands. Ring Peter with the postcode and he will quote it the same way.
Do you offer part-loads for long-distance moves?
Yes, for one-bed flats and smaller. We combine your load with another heading the same way and share the mileage, which cuts the price noticeably. You need some flexibility on dates, and Peter will tell you what is already booked so you can decide.
Is my furniture insured for the whole trip?
Goods in transit cover is available from your Glasgow door to the destination door, including any overnight, and Peter explains the level of cover and the excess when he quotes. Everything is wrapped and strapped so it does not move in the first place.
Where does the van stay overnight on a two-day move?
Locked, alarmed and parked in a secure yard or a monitored location near the destination, with the crew nearby. Your load is never left on an open street overnight and is never split between vehicles on a dedicated move.
Can you collect the keys if I am not there?
Often, yes. If your letting agent or solicitor will release keys to us with your written permission we can unload without you, which helps if you are travelling by train or flying. Tell Peter when you book and he will arrange it.
Are your vans allowed in clean air zones and the ULEZ?
Our vans are Euro 6 diesel, which meets the standard for the London ULEZ, the Birmingham Clean Air Zone and the Manchester scheme as it currently stands. No daily charge applies, and if a central London Congestion Charge does apply to your address we include it in the written quote.
