Flat Removals Glasgow
Stairs, closes, lifts and parking are our daily bread, so your flat move is priced and planned properly.

Most of Glasgow lives in flats, and most flats come with a catch: a top-floor tenement in Shawlands with a tight half-landing, a converted church in Hyndland with an odd-shaped stairwell, or a new build on the Clyde where the lift has to be booked and the loading bay is round the back. A flat move is really about access, and that is where we spend our planning time.
Clyde Movers is run by Peter from West George Street. He will ask which floor you are on at both ends, whether there is a lift, where the van can legally stop, and how many rooms you have. From that he sizes the crew, usually two movers for a one or two bedroom flat and three for anything bigger or on the fourth floor.
We bring straps and shoulder harnesses for stair work, treat the window as a last resort for sofas, and always get the van as close to the close mouth as parking law allows.
What’s included
- Two or three movers matched to your floor and stair layout
- Luton van or long-wheelbase van depending on flat size
- Sofa and mattress wrapping before anything touches the stair
- Dismantling of beds, wardrobes and desks that will not turn the landing
- Lift booking coordination with your factor or concierge
- Boxes delivered beforehand if you are packing yourself
- Goods in transit cover available, ask Peter for details
One-bed, two-bed and three-bed flats
A one-bed flat in Glasgow usually fits in a single Luton with two movers and takes two to four hours door to door. A two-bed adds a second wardrobe, more boxes and often a dining set, so we allow longer and sometimes add a third mover if both ends are above the second floor. Three-bed flats, particularly the big Victorian ones in Pollokshields or the West End, can hold as much as a house and may need two vans or two runs. Peter would rather quote for the right crew than send two people to fight a five-seat sofa up four flights.
Lifts, stairs and what will not fit
Standard tenement stairs turn at a half-landing that is often narrower than the flight itself. American fridge freezers, king-size divan bases in one piece and corner sofas are the usual culprits. Where a divan splits we split it; where a sofa has removable legs we take them off; where nothing helps we let you know before the day rather than leaving an item on the pavement.
In modern blocks the lift is the bottleneck, so we book it with the factor and use it for boxes and small furniture while the stair crew handles the bulky pieces.
Parking outside a Glasgow close
Almost every close in the inner city sits on a controlled street. Where there is resident bay space we position the van at the close mouth for the shortest carry; where there is not, Glasgow City Council will suspend one or two bays with about a week's notice. Loading from a bus lane or on double yellows brings tickets and, worse, a van moved on midway through loading. We would rather you pay a small suspension fee than a fixed penalty.
How it works
How we handle flat removals in Glasgow
Tell us the floors
Peter asks the floor number, lift availability and street parking at both addresses. A short video of your hall, stair and biggest items lets him spot anything that will need dismantling or a second pair of hands before the day.
Fix the price
You get a fixed quote based on rooms, floors and distance. If your new block needs a lift booking or your old street needs a bay suspension, we say so now, not when the van is stuck outside.
Move day
The crew protects the close walls and your door frames, carries boxes first to clear space, then brings furniture down in order. Everything is strapped in the van so nothing shifts on the M8 or over the Kingston Bridge.
Unload and rebuild
At the new flat we carry to the rooms you point to, rebuild the bed and any dismantled furniture, and take the packing blankets away. You are left with a flat you can live in, not a hallway full of boxes.
