Student Removals Glasgow

Halls, flat shares and end-of-year moves around Glasgow, Strathclyde, Caledonian and the Art School, without begging a friend with a car.

Student carrying a box up a Hillhead tenement stair while a mover follows with a desk chair

Every September and every June the same thing happens across Hillhead, Woodlands, Garnethill and the Merchant City: thousands of students move in or out within a couple of weeks. Halls have tight move-in windows, private lets start and end on set dates, and parents drive up from all over the UK to find nowhere to park. Clyde Movers runs student removals through those peaks with a van and a mover who carries everything up to the room.

We move single rooms out of halls at Murano Street or Cairncross House, flat shares off Byres Road, and whole flats when a group moves together. Sharing a van between two or three students in the same building is common and keeps the cost per person low.

Peter can also move belongings into storage over the summer and deliver them to the new flat in September, which saves a trip home with a car full of boxes.

What’s included

  • One mover and a van, or two for a shared-flat move
  • Carrying to the room, including halls stairwells and tenement closes
  • Boxes and tape supplied in advance if you need them
  • Shared van bookings for students in the same halls or flat
  • Summer storage runs and September redelivery
  • Flexible timing around halls check-in windows
  • Goods in transit cover available, ask Peter for details

Term dates and the September crush

University of Glasgow and Strathclyde terms start in mid-September, with halls move-in usually the weekend before. Private lets in the West End often begin on the first of the month, so there is a fortnight where the whole student population is moving at once. Book early for those dates; midweek slots are easier than the weekend. June is the same in reverse, with halls asking everyone out within days of exams. If your flatmates are on different dates, we can move the shared items when the last person leaves.

Halls, closes and parking

Halls such as Murano Street and Cairncross House have loading areas but strict time slots and one lift per block. Garnethill and Hillhead flats are almost all tenements with four flights and controlled parking, and Byres Road on a Saturday in September is best avoided altogether. We know where a van can legally stop for twenty minutes near each of the main student streets and plan around it. If a bay suspension is genuinely needed for a large flat share, Peter will say so and tell you how to apply.

Summer storage for students

Rather than driving everything home and back, many students put their belongings into storage in Glasgow for the summer. We collect from your flat in June, take it to a storage facility, and deliver it to your new address in September. The cost is usually less than two long round trips, and it means you arrive to a made bed rather than a car to unload. Share a unit with flatmates to reduce the price further. Tell us if you have a bike or a large item so we can size the unit.

How it works

How we handle student removals in Glasgow

  1. Tell us the dates and rooms

Send Peter the move-out and move-in dates, the halls or flat addresses and the floor. Halls often have a check-in slot, so let us know the time you have been given and we will work to it.

  2. Pack your room

A student room is usually ten to fifteen boxes plus bedding, a bike and maybe a desk chair. Use proper boxes rather than bin bags for anything breakable, and label them so they stack in the van.

  3. Move day

The mover collects, carries to the van, drives to the new place and carries up to the room. If you have a shared van with flatmates, we drop at each address in turn and settle up per person.

FAQ

Student removals questions

Can my flatmates and I share a van?
Yes, and it is the cheapest way to move. Give Peter each person's new address and floor. We load everyone's things together and drop them off in turn, usually within a couple of hours if the addresses are all in the West End or city centre.
Do you move into halls?
Yes. Tell us the halls name, the block and your check-in slot. We arrive within the slot and carry your things up. Halls management usually want the van moved on quickly, so being packed and ready matters.
Can you store my things over the summer?
We collect from your flat, deliver to a storage facility in Glasgow and bring everything to your new address in September. Book both legs together and Peter will give you a combined price for the pair.
What about my bike?
Bikes go in the van strapped upright, and we can carry them up to the flat or lock them in the close as you prefer. Remove lights and accessories that could fall off, and bring your own lock for the other end.
Do you take payment from parents?
Yes. Many bookings are made and paid for by parents from elsewhere in the UK. We confirm details by WhatsApp or email and can send an invoice so everyone knows what has been agreed.
