Removals in Motherwell

Flat and house moves across Motherwell, Muirhouse, North Motherwell, Airbles and Ravenscraig by a crew that comes down the M74 every week.

Shops and flats along Brandon Street in Motherwell town centre

Motherwell is the county town of North Lanarkshire and a place we know from the ground. The centre runs along Brandon Street, Merry Street and Windmillhill Street, with flats above the shops and tenements on the streets down to Motherwell station. Around it are the housing schemes that grew with the steelworks, Muirhouse and Flemington to the south, North Motherwell and Forgewood to the north, Jerviston and Airbles in between, and on the old Ravenscraig site a new neighbourhood is going up with modern semis and townhouses.

Removals in Motherwell are mostly houses rather than closes, but the estates have their own habits. Muirhouse has long rows of council terraces with front paths and rear lanes, North Motherwell mixes four-in-a-blocks with 1970s semis, and Airbles has bigger private houses on wider streets. The town centre flats need the van in a loading bay off Brandon Street rather than on it.

As a Motherwell removal company we come from Glasgow on the M74 to Raith, then the A725 and the A723 into town, or the M8 and Bellshill for the north side, in around 30 minutes. Give Peter the address and he will quote with the drive included.

Moving in Motherwell: what we know

Brandon Street, Merry Street and the station

The town centre is a grid of Brandon Street, Merry Street, Windmillhill Street and Hamilton Road, with the Brandon Parade shopping centre in the middle. The flats above the shops and the tenements on Hamilton Road and Milton Street are reached by closes off the side lanes, and daytime loading on Brandon Street is restricted. We use the loading bays behind the Parade or the streets near Motherwell station, which has fast trains to Central and is why a lot of our work here is commuters moving in or out.

Muirhouse, Flemington and North Motherwell

Muirhouse, south of the centre off Airbles Road, is rows of 1930s and post-war council terraces and four-in-a-blocks on streets like Shields Road and Muirhouse Avenue, with footpaths at the front and lanes or parking courts behind. North Motherwell and Forgewood on the other side of the railway have similar cottage flats alongside 1970s semis, and the streets are wide enough for the van but the upper flats have outside stairs. We check which side the door faces before the crew leaves Glasgow.

Airbles, Jerviston and Ravenscraig

Airbles and the streets around Strathclyde Park have the town's larger private houses, 1930s semis and later detached homes with driveways and garages. Jerviston is a 1980s and 90s estate of semis and detached houses with cul-de-sacs off Jerviston Road. Ravenscraig, on the old steelworks between Motherwell and Wishaw, is a new neighbourhood of modern townhouses and semis with tight parking bays and half-landing stairs, and its road layout is still being built, so we confirm the route in on the day.

The M74, Raith and the M8

Motherwell is about 30 minutes from West George Street. The usual run is the M74 to Junction 5 at Raith, the A725 across the Clyde and the A723 Hamilton Road into town, with the Raith interchange the slow point at rush hour. For North Motherwell, Forgewood and Carfin the M8 to Junction 6 and the A73 through Bellshill is quicker. Fir Park match days fill the streets around Knowetop and Airbles Road for a few hours, so we book around home fixtures for moves near the ground.

FAQ

Moving in Motherwell: your questions

Do you really come out to Motherwell from Glasgow?
Yes, most weeks. It is half an hour down the M74 and we treat Motherwell, Wishaw and Bellshill as normal working ground. Prices start from £200 for a one-bed, £300 for a two-bed and £500 for a three-bed, and Peter will say up front if the distance adds anything to the quote.
Our Muirhouse terrace has no road at the front. Where do you park?
On the lane or parking court at the back if there is one, or on the nearest road at the front with a carry along the path. We bring a sack truck and three crew for those so the extra distance does not slow the day. Tell Peter which side has the gate and he will plan from that.
Can you move us into one of the new houses at Ravenscraig?
Yes. The estate is still being built out, so we confirm the entrance and the road layout the day before and keep to the finished streets. The parking bays are tight for a Luton, so we sometimes sit on the main spine road and carry, and the half-landing stairs mean beds and wardrobes come apart.
What about a flat above the shops on Brandon Street?
The close is normally round the back off a lane, and that is where we work from, using the loading bays behind Brandon Parade. If your close only opens onto Brandon Street, North Lanarkshire Council can suspend a bay or grant a loading dispensation with notice, and Peter can walk you through it.
Can you do an evening move to fit around work?
Often, yes. Weekday evenings suit town centre addresses because the loading restrictions lift and the Raith interchange is clear by then. Peter will tell you what is possible for your dates when you phone.
