Packing Services Glasgow

Full or partial packing by the same crew that will carry it, so every box is packed to survive the stair and the van.

Packer wrapping plates in paper at a kitchen counter with labelled boxes stacked behind in a Glasgow flat

Packing is the part of moving that eats evenings. A three-bed home in Glasgow easily fills sixty to eighty boxes, and the kitchen alone can take a full day if you are wrapping glasses one at a time after work. Clyde Movers offers full packing, where we arrive the day before the move and box everything, and partial packing, where we take the rooms you dread, usually the kitchen, the books and anything fragile.

Because the people packing are the people loading, boxes are packed for the journey: heavy items low, weights kept manageable for the stair, and fragile boxes marked and loaded last so they come off first. We bring double-walled boxes, wardrobe boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap and tape rather than asking you to hunt for supermarket cartons.

Peter quotes packing per room or by estimated box count, and you can add it to any of our removal services or book it on its own.

How we pack a Glasgow kitchen

The kitchen is the room most likely to arrive broken. We use dish packs, which are heavier-duty boxes, and wrap plates individually and stack them on edge rather than flat. Glasses are wrapped and packed upright with paper between layers. Pans and small appliances go in standard boxes with the cords taped. Open bottles and anything liquid go in a separate box that travels upright and is labelled. Knives are wrapped and taped so nobody finds one by feel. Food from the fridge and freezer is best used up or moved in a cool bag in your own car rather than the van.

Books, records, pictures and fragile items

Books are heavy, so we use small boxes and keep them under a weight that one person can carry safely down a tenement stair. Vinyl records travel upright and tightly packed so they cannot warp. Pictures and mirrors go into picture boxes or are wrapped in bubble and cardboard and loaded standing against the van wall. Lamps are boxed with the shade removed.

Ornaments and anything with sentimental value are wrapped individually and packed with paper cushioning at the top and bottom of the box. If you have anything unusual, from a taxidermy fox to a model railway, tell Peter beforehand.

Full packing versus doing it yourself

Doing it yourself is cheaper but takes far longer than people expect, and boxes packed at midnight are the ones that split on the landing. A sensible middle ground is partial packing: we take the kitchen, books and fragile items, and you pack clothes, bedding and toys, which are light and forgiving. If you are packing yourself, start three weeks out, use proper double-walled boxes, do not overfill, and label the side of the box as well as the top so the room name can be read when stacked.

How it works

How we handle packing services in Glasgow

  1. Choose full or partial

Tell Peter which rooms you want packed. Full packing covers everything except what you carry yourself. Partial packing is priced per room, so many customers hand over the kitchen and the books and pack clothes themselves.

  2. Boxes arrive

We drop off boxes and materials a few days before if you are packing some rooms. If we are packing everything, the crew arrives the day before the move with all materials on the van.

  3. Packing day

Two packers work room by room, wrapping fragile items individually, keeping box weights manageable and labelling each one with the room and a short list of contents. Anything you need that night is left out.

  4. Move and unpack

On moving day the boxes are loaded in room order. At the new home we can unpack the kitchen and essentials, flatten the empties and take them away, or leave you to unpack at your own pace.

FAQ

Packing services questions

Do you supply boxes if I pack myself?
Yes. We deliver double-walled boxes, wardrobe boxes, tape and paper before your move. Plastic crates can be hired as an alternative. Unused boxes can be returned if they are undamaged and we will credit them.
When do you pack?
Usually the day before the move. For larger homes we start two days before. We leave out beds, kettle, toiletries and anything you need that night and pack those last on the morning of the move.
Can you pack just the kitchen?
Yes, kitchen-only packing is our most popular partial option. It takes a couple of hours for a typical Glasgow flat kitchen and covers crockery, glassware, pans, appliances and food cupboards. Larger family kitchens take a morning.
Will you unpack at the other end?
If you want it. Unpacking the kitchen and the beds on the day of the move is common; unpacking everything takes longer and is booked as a separate visit. We take the empty boxes away when we go.
What should I not put in boxes?
Passports, keys, medication, jewellery, chargers, cash and anything you will need on the first night should travel with you. Paint, gas canisters and flammable liquids cannot go in the van. Ask if you are unsure about anything else.
