Man and van

Man and Van Glasgow

A van and a mover who actually helps lift, for the jobs that do not need a full removal crew.

Mover loading a wrapped wardrobe into a white van parked outside a Glasgow tenement

Not every move needs two vans and three people. A studio flat, a wardrobe from Gumtree, an IKEA run from Braehead, a bed for a student in Hillhead, or a load of boxes to a storage unit: these are man and van jobs. Clyde Movers offers one mover and a van at an hourly or fixed rate, and if the item is heavy we send two.

The difference from a courier is the lifting. Our mover comes with blankets, straps and a sack truck, carries up the stair and puts the item where you want it. Glasgow is not flat and its closes are not wide, so a van driver who waits at the kerb is not much use on the fourth floor of a Dennistoun tenement.

Peter can usually fit a man and van job in within a few days, sometimes the same day if the van is already in your part of town.

What’s included

  • One mover with a Luton or long-wheelbase van, second mover on request
  • Blankets, straps and a sack truck on every job
  • Carrying up and down stairs, not just kerbside drop-off
  • Collection from stores, sellers and auction houses across Glasgow
  • Loads to and from storage units
  • Hourly or fixed pricing, agreed before we start
  • Goods in transit cover available, ask Peter for details

What one mover can and cannot do

One mover with a van can handle boxes, small furniture, a single bed, a two-seat sofa with your help, and anything that one person can carry safely. What a single mover cannot do is a wardrobe up a tenement stair, a three-seat sofa round a landing or a washing machine down four flights. For those, we send two. The price difference is small compared with a damaged item or a back injury. Peter will always tell you honestly which you need; if a job is booked as one mover and turns out to need two, we would rather rebook than force it.

Man and van versus a full removal

The dividing line is roughly a one-bed flat. Below that, a man and van with you helping is efficient and cheap. At a one-bed with a full set of furniture, two movers and a Luton van are quicker and safer, and the price is close because the job finishes in half the time. If you are unsure, send a video of the flat and Peter will say which service fits. There is no upsell: a small job is a small job, and we would rather you come back next time than feel overcharged this time.

Glasgow logistics for small jobs

Small jobs still need somewhere to park. If you are collecting from a shop, ask for the collection point and any time restrictions. If you are on a controlled street, be ready at the door so loading is quick. Retail parks such as Braehead, the Fort and Silverburn are straightforward; city-centre stores have loading bays with time limits. We know the Clyde Tunnel and the M8 well enough to pick the route that avoids the worst of rush hour, and for jobs that cross the river we allow time for the Kingston Bridge.

How it works

How we handle man and van in Glasgow

  1. Send the details

WhatsApp Peter with what needs moving, the two addresses and the floors. A photo of the item or the room is enough for most jobs, and he will tell you if one mover is enough or two makes sense.

  2. Agree a price

You get a fixed price or an hourly rate with a minimum. Fixed is usual for single items and small flats; hourly suits loads where the amount is unknown until the day, such as a garage clear-out.

  3. The job

The mover arrives at the agreed time, wraps and loads, drives and unloads at the other end. If you are helping, great; if not, book a second mover and put the kettle on.

FAQ

Man and van questions

Can you collect a sofa I bought on Facebook Marketplace?
Yes, this is a very common job. Send the seller's address, your address and the floors at both ends. If the sofa is large or the stair is tight, book two movers. We will wrap it in the van so it arrives clean.
Do you do IKEA collections?
Yes, from Braehead or any retail park. Give us your order number or meet us at click-and-collect. Flat-pack boxes are heavy and awkward for a car, and we can carry them up to your flat rather than leaving them in the close.
Is one mover enough for a one-bed flat?
If you help with the carrying and the flat is lightly furnished, yes. If you have a double bed, a sofa, a wardrobe and a washing machine, book two. Peter will advise from a video and price accordingly.
Do you charge for waiting?
On a fixed price, short delays are absorbed. On hourly jobs the clock runs from arrival. If a seller is not ready or a store is slow, we will let you know rather than surprise you with the bill afterwards.
Can you take things to the dump?
We can take items to Glasgow's household waste recycling centres such as Polmadie or Dawsholm if you come with us, since they require the householder to be present. For a full clearance without you, we can point you to a licensed waste carrier.
