Furniture Removals Glasgow

Single items and awkward pieces, from a sofa to a piano, moved by people who wrap first and carry carefully.

Three movers guiding a blanket-wrapped upright piano on a trolley through the doorway of a Glasgow flat

Sometimes it is one item that needs moving, and it is the one item that matters. A sofa that will not fit in a car, a solid oak wardrobe from a grandparent's house in Bishopbriggs, a piano going to a new flat, a dining table bought at auction, or a fridge freezer that needs to be down a stair by Friday. Clyde Movers moves individual pieces of furniture across Glasgow with the same wrapping and care as a full house move.

Big furniture is where damage happens: corners catch on close walls, glass doors crack, veneers scuff and legs snap when a piece is dragged. We blanket-wrap every item, remove doors, drawers and legs where sensible, and carry on straps at a pace that keeps control.

Pianos, large mirrors and antiques get a two or three-person crew and a plan for every stair and doorway on the route.

What’s included

  • Blanket and stretch-wrap protection for every item

  • Placement in the room, not just inside the door
  • Goods in transit cover available, ask Peter for details

Sofas, beds and wardrobes

Sofas are the classic problem piece. Three-seaters and corner units often exceed the diagonal of a tenement half-landing, so we remove legs and feet, sometimes the back cushions, and tilt on the turn. Divan beds split into two bases and a mattress and are straightforward; solid wooden bed frames come apart at the bolts. Wardrobes with sliding doors have the doors lifted out, and older solid wardrobes sometimes need the back panel removed. We bag every screw and tape it to the piece so it can be rebuilt in ten minutes at the other end.

Pianos and heavy hardwood

An upright piano weighs roughly 200 to 300kg and needs a piano trolley, straps and three movers on stairs. We wrap it in blankets, protect the keyboard lid and move it on its castors only over short, flat distances. Baby grands have the legs and pedal lyre removed and travel on a skid board on their side. Digital pianos are much simpler but still deserve a box or blanket.

Heavy hardwood pieces, from Victorian sideboards to farmhouse tables, are moved the same way: wrapped, carried, never dragged. If your piano is going up a tenement stair, we visit first.

Antiques, glass and mirrors

Antique furniture is wrapped in soft blankets rather than plastic against the surface, so no residue is left on old finishes. Glass-fronted cabinets have the glass shelves and doors removed and packed flat. Large mirrors are wrapped in bubble and cardboard and travel upright, strapped to the van wall. Marble tops are carried on edge and never flat, because marble cracks under its own weight if flexed. If you are collecting from an auction house or saleroom in or around Glasgow, tell us the lot number and collection deadline and we will fit the run in.

How it works

How we handle furniture removals in Glasgow

  1. Describe the piece

Send Peter a photo and rough dimensions, plus the floors and access at both ends. For pianos, tell him the type: upright, baby grand or digital. He prices the crew and the wrapping for that specific item.

  2. Plan the route

We work out which way the item leaves the room, whether the stair and landings will clear it, and what needs taking off. If a window exit or specialist lifting is needed, we say so before the day.

  3. Wrap, carry, place

On the day the crew wraps the item in the room, carries it on straps or a piano trolley, secures it in the van and delivers it into the room you want, refitting anything that was removed.

FAQ

Furniture removals questions

Can you move an upright piano?
Yes. We use a piano trolley and straps and send three movers for anything involving stairs. Send a photo, tell us the floors at both ends and whether there is a lift, and Peter will quote. Grand pianos are moved on a skid board with the legs removed.
Will you take doors off to get a sofa in?
If it helps, yes. Removing a flat's internal door is quick and often makes the difference. We will never force a piece through a gap that is too small; if it genuinely will not fit, we tell you before anything is damaged.
Can you collect furniture I bought at auction?
Yes. Give us the auction house, lot number and collection window. We bring blankets and packaging and can deliver to your home or storage. Most salerooms expect collection within a few days of the sale, so book promptly.
Do you dispose of old furniture?
We can take an old sofa or bed to a Glasgow recycling centre if you come with us, since the householder must be present. For disposal without you, a licensed waste carrier is the right route and we can point you to one.
How do you protect furniture in the van?
Every piece is blanket-wrapped and strapped to the van wall or floor rails so nothing moves under braking. Glass and mirrors travel upright, marble on edge, and drawers are taped or removed so they cannot slide out.
