Removals in Finnieston

From Argyle Street tenements to the new blocks around the SEC and Lancefield Quay, we move Finnieston flats around event days, bus lanes and permit bays.

Tenements on Argyle Street in Finnieston with the Finnieston Crane behind

Finnieston has changed faster than almost anywhere in Glasgow. The tenement rows on Argyle Street, Kelvinhaugh Street and Corunna Street are still there, but they now share the postcode with new-build blocks along the Clyde at Lancefield Quay, around Minerva Street and behind the SEC. Our removals in Finnieston cover both, and the two kinds of building need very different plans.

The tenement side is stairs and permits. Three flights up on Argyle Street with no lift is normal, and the streets north of Argyle Street sit inside a controlled parking zone, so we time arrivals for when a bay is likely to be free or arrange a suspension. The new-build side is lifts, fobs and underground car parks with height barriers that our vans will not fit under, which means loading from the street outside.

Then there is the OVO Hydro. On a concert night Finnieston Street and Argyle Street lock solid from late afternoon, so as a Finnieston removal company we check the events calendar before we quote a date. Ring Peter, tell him the street and the floor, and he will price it properly.

Moving in Finnieston: what we know

Event days at the Hydro and SEC

When the Hydro has a concert, the roads from Finnieston Street down to the Clydeside Expressway fill from about 4pm and the surrounding streets become permit-only for the evening. We check the SEC calendar for your date, and if there is a big event we start early and aim to be loaded and away by lunchtime. A move planned around that is easy; one that ignores it is a long night.

Argyle Street tenements

The four-storey tenements between Kelvingrove and Anderston Cross have decent closes but long stairs, and the top-floor flats often have the best views and the heaviest wardrobes. Argyle Street carries a bus lane, so we cannot sit on it for long. For those flats we load from Corunna Street, Radnor Street or Kelvinhaugh Street and carry through the close.

New builds by the river

The blocks at Lancefield Quay, Minerva Street and around Stobcross have lifts, but the car parks are height-limited and the lifts are small. We usually park on the street, wheel everything to the lift on trolleys and protect the lobby floor. Most factors want the move booked with them in advance, and we will handle that call.

Quick out, quick in

Finnieston sits right next to the Clydeside Expressway and the Kingston Bridge, so once the van is loaded you are ten minutes from the Southside, the M8 west or the M74. We also cover the short hops within the area, such as a move from an Argyle Street tenement to a new flat on Lancefield Quay, which we can often do in a single trip.

Typical Finnieston properties

  • Red and blonde sandstone tenements on Argyle Street, Kelvinhaugh Street and Corunna Street
  • Riverside apartment blocks at Lancefield Quay and around the Finnieston Crane
  • New-build flats around Minerva Street and Stobcross with lifts and fob entry
  • St Vincent Crescent's listed terraced houses split into large flats
  • Converted commercial buildings around Anderston Cross

What to plan for

  • Controlled parking zone north of Argyle Street with permit-only bays during the day
  • Concert and event traffic around the OVO Hydro and SEC from mid-afternoon
  • Bus lanes on Argyle Street that rule out a long stop outside the close
  • Height-restricted underground car parks in the new-build blocks
  • Top-floor tenement flats with no lift and tight top landings

FAQ

Moving in Finnieston: your questions

Do I need a parking suspension for a move on Argyle Street in Finnieston?
For a tenement on Argyle Street itself, usually yes, because of the bus lane and the lack of kerb. We can load from the side streets for a small move, but for a full flat we apply to Glasgow City Council for a suspended bay so the van is at the close. Peter will tell you whether your flat needs one.
What happens if my move falls on a Hydro concert night?
We check the SEC events list before agreeing a date. If your move lands on a concert day we start early, often at 7am, and get you loaded before the traffic builds on Finnieston Street. If timings cannot work we will say so and suggest a better day rather than have you pay for a crew stuck in queues.
Can your van get into the underground car park at Lancefield Quay?
No, and nor can most removal vans; the height barriers are well under what a Luton needs. We park at street level, use the main entrance and the passenger lift, and bring trolleys and floor protection. It takes a little longer than a driveway move, and we allow for that in the quote.
Do you move students and young professionals between Finnieston flats?
Constantly. Short hops from Kelvinhaugh Street to a new block by the river, or from a Corunna Street tenement to Partick, are a big part of our week and often a man and van job. A one-bed in Finnieston starts from £200, and a same-area move is often done by early afternoon.
Is Finnieston inside the Low Emission Zone?
Most of Finnieston is just outside the zone, which stops at the M8, but the Anderston end and anything east of the motorway is inside. It makes no difference to your move because our vehicles can go in and out freely, so we collect from Finnieston and deliver to the city centre without a detour.
