Small Moves Glasgow

Studios, bedsits, part-loads and a handful of furniture, moved properly without paying for a full crew.

Mover carrying a stack of labelled boxes out of a Glasgow studio flat towards a Transit van

A small move is anything that would not fill a Luton van: a studio in Finnieston, a furnished room in a shared flat, a few pieces going to a partner's place, the contents of a spare room heading to a parent's house, or a part-load to a storage unit. Clyde Movers prices these on what is actually being moved, not on a standard house rate.

Small moves are easy to underestimate. A studio still has a bed, a sofa, a wardrobe, a fridge and twenty boxes, and it is usually up a stair. We send the right size of van and, where needed, two movers so the job takes an hour or two rather than an afternoon of struggle with a friend's estate car.

Peter takes bookings by WhatsApp with a couple of photos and can often fit small moves in between larger jobs, which makes midweek dates especially flexible.

What’s included

  • Van sized for the load, from a long-wheelbase Transit to a Luton
  • One or two movers depending on furniture and floors
  • Blankets and straps for the few pieces of furniture that matter
  • Boxes delivered beforehand if you need them
  • Stair carries at both ends
  • Part-loads combined with another job where it saves you money
  • Goods in transit cover available, ask Peter for details

Studio and one-room moves

A studio or a single room in a shared flat typically has a bed, a chest of drawers, a desk, maybe a small sofa, and fifteen to twenty-five boxes. That fits in a long-wheelbase van with one mover if you help, or a Luton with two if you would rather not carry. Glasgow's shared flats are often in tenements around Woodlands, Hillhead and Govanhill, so stairs are the norm. Tell us if the room has a mezzanine bed or bespoke shelving; those need dismantling and a little more time. Most studio moves are done inside three hours.

Part-loads and storage runs

If you are only moving some of your things, for example putting furniture into storage while renovating or sending a bed and a sofa to a new flatmate, we price on the items rather than the property. Storage units at Shieldhall, Hillington or the city centre have their own access rules and trolleys, and we know the ones with awkward lifts. Bring the unit's access code and let us know the unit size so the crew can stack efficiently. We can also collect from storage and deliver to your new home in a single trip.

When a small move needs a second mover

The trigger is weight and stairs. A single mover can manage boxes and light furniture, but a double mattress up three flights or a fridge down a tenement stair needs two people for safety and speed. It also protects the close walls, which your factor will bill you for if scraped. Peter will say when a second mover is worth it, and on many jobs the extra person saves as much time as they cost. If there is any doubt, book the second mover; it costs less than a torn mattress or a factor's invoice for a scraped landing.

How it works

How we handle small moves in Glasgow

  1. Photos and floors

Send Peter a few photos of what is going and tell him the floor at each end. That is enough to size the van and crew and give you a fixed price without a visit for most small jobs.

  2. Pick a date

Small moves are flexible. If you can move midweek or in the afternoon we can often slot you in at short notice or combine with a nearby job to bring the price down.

  3. Load, drive, unload

The crew wraps furniture, loads boxes and drives across. At the other end everything goes where you point, including up the stair, and the bed is rebuilt if it came apart for the move.

FAQ

Small moves questions

How small is a small move?
Anything that fits in one van with room to spare: a studio, a single room, a handful of furniture or a part-load. If you are unsure, send photos and Peter will tell you whether it is a small move or a one-bed flat job.
Can I ride in the van?
There is usually a passenger seat available, so yes for one person. Let us know when booking so the seat is kept free. Pets should travel with you rather than in the back of the van.
Do you do same-day small moves?
Sometimes. If the van is free and you are packed, we can often move a studio or a few items the same day, especially midweek. Call Peter in the morning and he will tell you what is possible.
Can you combine my move with another job to keep the cost down?
Yes, if the timing is flexible. Part-loads along the same route, for example from the West End to the Southside, can share a van with another small job. This works best for storage runs and single items where an exact time is not critical.
Do I need to pack everything in boxes?
Boxes make loading quicker and safer, and they stack. Bags are fine for clothes and bedding but not for books or crockery. We can drop boxes off beforehand for a small charge if you need them.
