Removals from Glasgow to Falkirk
Twenty four miles up the M80, loaded in Glasgow at breakfast time and unloaded in Falkirk by lunch, with the Falkirk end checked before the van leaves.

Distance
24 miles
Driving time
35 min to 50 min via the M80 and M876
Typical job
Same day
Falkirk is the shortest of our regular long-distance runs and one of the most common, because a lot of people work in Glasgow and buy in Falkirk, Larbert or Polmont where the same money gets a house with a garden and a fast train back in. At about 24 miles from the city centre it is barely longer than a cross-city move, but the M80 is still a motorway with a loaded van on it.
Falkirk is not one place but a cluster of towns, and the right route and the right van depend on which one you are going to. Camelon and the streets round the Falkirk Wheel at Tamfourhill are mostly terraced and semi-detached houses with on-street parking. Larbert and Stenhousemuir mix Victorian villas with big new estates at Kinnaird. Grangemouth is a flat grid of twentieth century housing under the refinery. Polmont, Brightons and Maddiston are commuter villages of newer housing with driveways. Bo'ness is an old harbour town on the Forth with steep streets and stone terraces. Peter asks for the full address before he quotes because each of those needs a slightly different plan.
Parking is easier than in Glasgow or Edinburgh, but not nothing. Falkirk Council restricts the streets around the High Street and the Howgate, and the older terraces in Camelon and Bainsford fill with parked cars by evening. We tell you what, if anything, needs arranging.
The route and what shapes the day
M80 and M876 for Falkirk, Larbert and Camelon
From the city centre we join the M8 at Townhead and take the M80 at junction 13, or come up through Robroyston to Stepps. The M80 runs past Cumbernauld and Castlecary, and at junction 7 at Haggs the M876 branches off towards Falkirk. Junction 1 of the M876 drops us onto the A883 for Bonnybridge, Camelon and the Falkirk Wheel side of town, and junction 2 onto the A88 for Larbert, Stenhousemuir and Carron. For the town centre and Callendar Park we come in on the A803 through Camelon. It is about 24 miles and 35 to 45 minutes with a load on.
M8 and the A801 for Polmont, Grangemouth and Bo'ness
For the east side of the district the M876 is still an option, carrying on towards Kincardine to the M9 and coming back to junction 6 at Earlsgate for Grangemouth, but it is often quicker to stay on the M8 to junction 4 at Whitburn and take the A801 north to the M9 at junction 4, Lathallan. That lands us in Polmont and Brightons directly, and Grangemouth, Laurieston and Bo'ness are a few minutes further on the A905 and A904.
When the M80 slows
The M80 between Stepps and Cumbernauld is slow northbound from about 16:00 and southbound between 07:30 and 09:30, and the Castlecary and Haggs junctions back up when there is an incident further on. The M876 and the A803 into Falkirk are busy at school run times, and the Grangemouth roundabouts on the A904 fill with refinery shift traffic around 07:00 and 19:00. Because we load in Glasgow first thing and head up mid morning, we arrive in Falkirk between the peaks. Friday afternoons are the worst time on every road in the district.
Winter on the M80 and the Forth side
The M80 climbs between Cumbernauld and Castlecary and that stretch ices before the lower roads do, so from November to March we check Traffic Scotland and leave a little earlier. The M9 along the Forth at Grangemouth and the A904 to Bo'ness are flat but exposed, and fog off the river sits on them on cold mornings. Bo'ness is the one Falkirk destination where snow matters at the house end, because the streets down to the harbour are steep and the council grits the main roads first.
Arriving in Falkirk
- Falkirk High Street is pedestrianised and the streets round it, including Lint Riggs, Manor Street and the Howgate, have loading restrictions. For a flat above a shop we arrange a loading slot or a suspended bay through Falkirk Council and plan the carry from there.
- Camelon, Bainsford and the streets near the Falkirk Wheel at Tamfourhill are older terraces where cars line both sides by evening. We arrive mid morning when there is space, and ask you to keep a car length clear outside the door if you can.
- Larbert and Stenhousemuir have Victorian villas on Main Street and near the hospital with drives that are often shared or narrow. The Kinnaird estates are new build with parking on plot.
- Grangemouth is flat and gridded with wide streets, and the only thing to plan around is shift change traffic at the refinery. Polmont, Brightons and Maddiston are modern estates where the van parks on the drive.
- Bo'ness has steep streets running down to the harbour, stone terraces with narrow front doors, and limited turning space in the older part of town. Tell us the exact street and we will send a van that can get round the corners.
How it works
Moving from Glasgow to Falkirk, step by step
Quote from a video or a visit
Send Peter a walk-through video of your Glasgow flat or house on WhatsApp, or book him to come round. He confirms the volume, checks the close and the parking at your Glasgow address, and looks at the Falkirk property to see whether the van can sit at the door. You get a fixed written price covering the crew, the van, fuel and the drive.
Sort parking and timings
Most Falkirk addresses need nothing arranged, because the van parks on the drive or the street outside. For flats on the High Street, Lint Riggs or around the Howgate, we tell you how to ask Falkirk Council for a suspension or a loading dispensation with about a week's notice. In Glasgow we tell you whether your own street needs a suspension. Pack ahead or book our packers, and keep keys and documents in a bag that travels with you.
Load in Glasgow
The crew arrives from 08:00, protects the close and the door frames, and brings the heavy furniture down first with the boxes loaded around it. Everything is wrapped before it touches the stair. A two bed flat is loaded and on the M80 within two to three hours, which puts the van in Falkirk before midday.
Unload in Falkirk
We put the van where we agreed, carry everything to the rooms you name, and build the beds first. With a run this short we usually have the house in order by early afternoon.
