Everyone asks the same question first: how much is it going to cost? It is a fair question and we would rather answer it plainly than hide behind "it depends". So here are our real from-prices for 2026, what changes them, and how to make sure you are comparing like with like when you gather quotes.
We move people across Glasgow every week, from studio flats in Finnieston to family homes in Newton Mearns, so the figures below come from jobs we actually do rather than a national average that has never seen a tenement close.
Guide prices for removals in Glasgow (2026)
These are our starting prices for a local move within Greater Glasgow. They include the van, the crew, fuel, blankets, straps and the basic loading and unloading you would expect.
| Property size | Typical crew | Typical time on the job | From price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio or 1-bed flat | 2 movers | 2 to 4 hours | £200 |
| 2-bed flat or house | 2 movers | 3 to 5 hours | £300 |
| 3-bed house | 2 to 3 movers | 5 to 8 hours | £500 |
| Small office (up to about 10 desks) | 2 movers | Half a day | £200 |
A few notes on reading that table honestly:
- "From" means exactly that. A ground-floor one-bed with parking outside will sit at the bottom of the range. A top-floor one-bed with no lift, a piano and a loading distance of 60 metres will not.
- Larger homes, four-bed houses and anything with a garage full of tools are quoted individually because the variation is too wide for a headline number.
- Long-distance moves out of the Central Belt are priced separately, mainly on mileage and whether an overnight is involved.

What pushes the price up
If you understand these factors you can often shave money off your own move before you even ask for a quote.
Stairs and closes
Glasgow is a city of tenements, and stairs are the single biggest reason a quote climbs. Every flight adds time and effort for the crew. A third-floor flat in Hillhead with a tight stair turn can take nearly twice as long to load as the same flat at street level. We cover the practicalities in our guide to tenement flat removals.
Parking and access
If the van cannot get close to your door, everything has to be carried further. Long carries slow the day down. In controlled parking zones you may also need a bay suspension from Glasgow City Council, which has its own fee and lead time. Where a suspension is not possible we can often still work, but it may mean an earlier start or a smaller van doing two runs.
Packing
Full packing is the most common add-on. It saves you days of work but it adds crew hours and materials. Partial packing, where we handle the kitchen and fragile items only, is a good middle ground. See packing services for how we price it.
Distance
Within the city, distance matters less than you might think because loading and unloading is where the time goes. Once you are heading beyond the M8 corridor, to Edinburgh, Stirling or further, mileage and driver hours start to count.
Timing and demand
Fridays, the last few days of the month and school holidays are the busiest times. Prices are firmer then simply because the diary is full. Midweek dates in the middle of the month are easier to book and often cheaper. We go into this in more depth in our post on the best time to move house in Glasgow.
Extras that add time
- Dismantling and reassembling beds, wardrobes and desks
- Disconnecting washing machines and cookers (gas must be done by a Gas Safe engineer)
- Awkward items such as pianos, American fridge freezers and large glass tables
- Waiting time if keys are released late on the day of entry
What makes it cheaper
- Be packed and ready when the crew arrives. A move that starts on time finishes on time.
- Declutter first. Fewer boxes means fewer hours and possibly a smaller van.
- Move midweek, away from month-end.
- Dismantle flat-pack furniture yourself the night before if you are comfortable doing it.
- Have parking sorted, whether that means a suspended bay or a neighbour's driveway.
- Be flexible on the start time. An early slot suits everyone.
How to get an accurate quote
The more we know, the tighter the price. When you ask for a quote, tell us:
- Both addresses, including postcodes and the floor at each end.
- Whether there is a lift, and if so whether it actually fits a sofa.
- A rough inventory: number of beds, wardrobes, sofas, large appliances and an estimate of boxes.
- Anything unusual: pianos, safes, aquariums, gym equipment, items over 2 metres long.
- Parking at both ends and whether you are in a permit zone.
- Whether you want packing, dismantling or just the van and crew.
- Your ideal date and whether you have any flexibility.
For anything above a two-bed we prefer to do a quick video survey. Ten minutes on a phone call walking through the rooms lets us give you a fixed price rather than an estimate that grows on the day.
How to compare removal quotes fairly
Three quotes that look different are often quoting three different jobs. Before you pick the cheapest, check:
| Question to ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Is it a fixed price or an hourly rate? | Hourly rates look cheap until the job runs long |
| How many crew and what size van? | Two movers and a Luton is not the same as one man and a Transit |
| Are stairs and long carries included? | Some quotes add these on the day |
| Is fuel and mileage included? | A common hidden extra |
| What insurance is in place? | Goods in transit and public liability should both be there |
| Is dismantling included? | Beds and wardrobes take real time |
| What happens if keys are late? | Ask about waiting time charges |
| Is VAT included in the figure? | A 20% difference if not |
A reasonable quote will be written down, will list what is included, and will not change on the day unless you add something to the job. If a quote is far below the others, ask yourself what has been left out.
Man with a van or full removal?
For a small flat with no large furniture, a man and van job can be the sensible choice and will usually sit at or below our one-bed price. For anything with a full set of furniture, stairs at both ends or a tight timetable on the date of entry, a proper two-person crew is faster, safer and usually no dearer once you count the hours.
Need a hand?
If you would like a real figure rather than a range, request a quote with your two addresses and a rough list of what is moving. We will come back the same day, and if a video survey would help we will set one up. You can also call Peter directly on 07481 469221.
