Removals from Glasgow to Aberdeen
An early start, the A90 through Dundee, and your furniture in a granite tenement or Rosemount flat by the afternoon.

Distance
145 miles
Driving time
2 h 45 min to 3 h 15 min via the M80 and A90
Typical job
Same day
Aberdeen is a proper long run, about 145 miles and three hours each way, and it needs planning rather than hoping. Removals Glasgow to Aberdeen is a job we do regularly for families following work to the north east, students heading for the university and people coming back the other way when a contract ends. Clyde Movers plans it as a single early-start day wherever the volume allows.
Moving from Glasgow to Aberdeen means learning a different sort of building. The granite tenements in Rosemount, Ferryhill and around Union Street are solid, with wide stone stairs but heavy storm doors and long hallways. Newer flats down by the harbour and out at Cove have lifts and loading bays that need booking. Peter checks all of this before he prices the job so there are no surprises when the crew arrives.
The drive itself is the other variable. The A90 north of Dundee is fast in summer and unpredictable in winter, so between November and March we leave earlier and keep an eye on the forecast rather than promising a time we cannot hold.
The route and what shapes the day
M80, M9 and the A90 north
We leave Glasgow on the M80 towards Stirling, pick up the M9 and A9 to Perth, then take the A90 dual carriageway through Dundee, past Forfar and Stonehaven, and into Aberdeen from the south. It is about 145 miles and around three hours with a loaded van at a steady pace. The Perth section and the Dundee Kingsway are the parts most likely to add time.
Why we leave early
To load, drive three hours and unload in daylight we need the crew at your Glasgow door by 07:00. That gets the van on the M80 before nine, past Dundee by late morning and into Aberdeen early afternoon. Leaving later means unloading in the dark in winter and a long day for everybody. If your key release is uncertain, a two-day plan with the van held overnight is often the calmer option.
Winter on the A90
North of Dundee the A90 climbs through open farmland and the stretch around Forfar, Brechin and Laurencekirk catches drifting snow and black ice. It is gritted but closures happen a few times each winter and the diversions are slow. We check Traffic Scotland the night before, carry the right kit, and will move the day if the road is closed rather than risk your load. Fog on the coast near Stonehaven is common in spring too.
Breaks on the way
Three hours is long enough that the crew takes a proper break, usually at Kinross services or the Stracathro stop near Brechin. It keeps the drivers sharp for the unload and adds about twenty minutes. The van is locked and in sight throughout. On the return leg the crew stops again, but by then your furniture is in your new home.
Arriving in Aberdeen
- Aberdeen's granite tenements in Rosemount, Ferryhill and around Rosemount Place have wide stairs but heavy storm doors and long lobbies, so allow for a longer carry than a Glasgow close.
- Central streets near Union Street and the harbour are pay and display or permit only; Aberdeen City Council can suspend bays with about a week's notice and we will tell you if your street needs it.
- Newer flats at the harbour, Cove and out towards Bridge of Don usually need the lift booked and a loading bay slot arranged through the factor.
- Offshore workers often move on a rota change; tell Peter your rotation dates and we plan the day around them, including collecting keys from a letting agent if you are still at sea.
- The wind off the North Sea is no joke on a moving day, so anything light goes in the van under wrap and we keep the doors shut between carries.
How it works
Moving from Glasgow to Aberdeen, step by step
Price the whole job
Peter takes a video walk-through or visits, works out the volume and checks floors and parking in Glasgow and Aberdeen. You get one fixed written price covering crew, van, fuel and the three-hour drive each way, with a same-day or two-day plan agreed up front.
Prepare for an early start
Pack the week before or book our packers, defrost the freezer two days out, and have everything ready for a 07:00 arrival. If your Aberdeen street needs a permit or a lift booking, Aberdeen City Council and most factors want around a week's notice.
Load and drive north
The crew loads heavy items first and wraps every soft surface. By mid-morning we are on the M80 and you can drive up at your own pace. We call from the A90 with a realistic arrival time so you are at the new door with the keys.
Unload in Aberdeen
We carry everything to the rooms you name, rebuild beds and reassemble wardrobes, then check the van is empty before heading south. If keys are late we hold the load overnight and unload first thing, at a cost agreed beforehand.
