85 miles
Driving time
1 h 30 min to 1 h 50 min via the M80 and A90 or the M8 and M90
Typical job
Same day
Dundee is close enough that we sometimes do it twice in a week. Removals Glasgow to Dundee is a comfortable same-day job: about 85 miles, an hour and a half on the road, and the crew back in Glasgow before tea. We move families to Broughty Ferry, students to the West End and Perth Road, and plenty of people into the new flats on the waterfront near the V&A.
Moving from Glasgow to Dundee is a lot like moving within Glasgow in terms of the buildings. The West End tenements around Perth Road and Magdalen Green are stone stairs and storm doors, the same as Hyndland or Shawlands. The waterfront blocks and the newer developments at City Quay have lifts and loading bays that need booking. Broughty Ferry is mostly villas and terraces with driveways, which makes for an easy unload.
Peter prices the job from a video walk-through, checks the parking at both ends and sends a fixed written price. Because the drive is short, there is no premium for an early start and no need to hold the van overnight unless your keys are very late.
The route and what shapes the day
Two ways north
Our usual route is the M80 to Stirling, the M9 and A9 to Perth, then the A90 dual carriageway into Dundee, about 85 miles and 1 h 30 min. If the A9 around Perth is slow we go M8 to Newbridge, over the Queensferry Crossing on the M90 and pick up the A90 at Perth from the other side. Both land you on the Kingsway or Riverside Drive depending on the address.
Traffic and timing
The M80 out of Glasgow is busy until about 09:30 and the Kingsway in Dundee slows at school run and rush hour. A load starting at 08:00 has the van moving by late morning and in Dundee by early afternoon, which suits most key releases. The Broxden roundabout at Perth is the usual pinch point, particularly on Fridays and bank holidays when everyone is heading for the A9 north.
Weather on the A9 and A90
The road is dual carriageway all the way and gritted in winter, so closures are rare on this run. The Queensferry Crossing occasionally has restrictions in high wind, which is why we keep the Stirling route as the default. Coming down into Dundee from the west the wind off the Tay can be strong, so we park nose to the wind and keep the van doors under control when unloading on Riverside Drive.
No stop needed
Ninety minutes is short enough that the crew drives straight through, which means no waiting around for you at the Dundee end. If the loading has been a long one we might pull in briefly at Broxden services. The van is locked and in sight throughout, and we call you from the A90 with an accurate arrival time so you are at the door with the keys.
Arriving in Dundee
- The West End tenements around Perth Road, Magdalen Green and Blackness Avenue are permit zones; Dundee City Council can suspend bays with about a week's notice and it is worth doing for a top-floor flat.
- University of Dundee and Abertay halls have set move-in windows in September; tell Peter the slot you have been given and we plan the arrival around it.
- Waterfront flats near the V&A and at City Quay have lifts that need booking with the factor, and the loading bays are shared, so a time slot matters.
- Broughty Ferry is mostly villas and terraces with driveways or quiet streets, so the unload there is usually the easiest part of the day.
- Riverside Drive and the Kingsway are the two ways in; if you are near the bridge tell us, because the Tay Road Bridge approach can be slow at rush hour.
How it works
Moving from Glasgow to Dundee, step by step
Send a walk-through
A short WhatsApp video of your Glasgow home is enough for Peter to size the crew and van. He asks about floors and parking at both addresses and whether the Dundee end needs a lift booking, then sends one fixed written price for the day.
Pack and plan
Pack ahead or book our packers. For student moves we can drop boxes to a Glasgow address a week before. If your new street in the West End is permit only, Dundee City Council can suspend a bay with about a week's notice and we tell you exactly what to ask for.
Load and drive
The crew arrives from 08:00, protects the close and loads heavy furniture first. Most flats are on the M80 within two hours. You drive up at your own pace and we ring from the A90 with the arrival time so you are at the door with the keys.
Unload in Dundee
We put everything in the rooms you name, rebuild beds and reassemble anything we took apart, and check the van before leaving. If you want the flattened boxes taken away, say so and they come back to Glasgow with us.
