Removals from Glasgow to London

Four hundred miles, one fixed price, and a crew that has done the M6 enough times to know where the queues start.

Driving time

Typical job

Two days or an overnight

London is the longest run we do regularly, and it is the one where planning matters most. Removals Glasgow to London is about 405 miles and seven to eight hours of driving with a loaded van, so it is usually a two-day job: load in Glasgow on day one, drive south, unload in London on the morning of day two. For smaller flats with an early start it can be done in one long day, and Peter will tell you honestly which suits your move.

Most people moving from Glasgow to London are following a job, starting a course or joining a partner, and most are moving into a flat rather than a house. That means terraced streets with residents' parking, borough parking suspensions, lifts in newer blocks and the ULEZ to think about. Our vans are Euro 6 and ULEZ compliant, so the charge is not an issue, and we tell you exactly what to apply for with your borough.

If you have a one-bed flat or less, ask about our part-load option. We combine your move with another heading south, share the mileage and bring the price down considerably, in exchange for a little flexibility on dates.

The route and what shapes the day

M74, M6 and the choice at Birmingham

We leave Glasgow on the M74, cross the border at Gretna and follow the M6 south past Carlisle, Preston and the Midlands. For north and east London we take the M6 Toll, M1 and come in on the North Circular; for west and south-west London the M40 and A40 into Hanger Lane suit better. It is about 405 miles and seven to eight hours of driving with a loaded van, before London traffic is counted.

One day or two

A one-bed flat can be done in a single day if the crew loads from 06:00 and you can take delivery in the evening. For anything bigger we load on day one, drive south, and unload first thing on day two when London streets are quietest. The van is locked, alarmed and parked securely overnight with the load untouched. Peter recommends the plan that fits your volume and key timing rather than the one that sounds quickest.

Where the M6 slows down

The M6 between junctions 20 and 10, around Manchester and through the Midlands, is the slowest stretch at almost any hour, and Friday afternoons are worst. Roadworks with 50 mph limits appear somewhere on the route most months. We build these into the plan and update you from the road. The M1 into London backs up from about 15:00, which is another reason to unload in the morning.

Breaks, weather and Shap

Drivers take breaks by law and by common sense on a run this long, typically at Tebay, then again around Stafford or Northampton. Shap summit on the M6 in Cumbria catches snow and high winds in winter and is the one part of the route that can close. We check Highways and Traffic Scotland the day before and would rather move a date than sit on the hard shoulder with your belongings.

Arriving in London

  • Apply to your London borough for a parking suspension as soon as you have the address; most need seven to ten days and a 3.5t van needs two bays. Without one the crew may face a long carry from the nearest legal stop.
  • Our vans are Euro 6 and ULEZ compliant, so there is no ULEZ charge to pass on. If your new address is inside the Congestion Charge zone the daily charge applies on weekdays and we include it in the quote.
  • Terraced streets in Hackney, Walthamstow, Tooting and similar areas are tight with cars both sides; measure the narrowest point in your new hall and stairs and tell us so we can plan what needs dismantling.
  • Newer blocks in Stratford, Canary Wharf, Wembley and along the river need the lift booked through the concierge, often in a fixed two-hour slot, and some insist on a copy of our insurance in advance.
  • Student moves to halls have set arrival windows and often a one-way system for vans; send us the arrival instructions from the university and we will follow them.

How it works

Moving from Glasgow to London, step by step

  1. Fixed price, full load or part-load

Peter takes a video walk-through, works out your volume and quotes two ways if it suits: a dedicated van on your dates, or a part-load on a shared run that costs less. Either way you get one fixed written price covering crew, van, fuel, tolls and the overnight.

  2. Sort the London end

Tell us the borough and postcode. We advise on a parking suspension, which most London councils need seven to ten days to arrange, and on lift bookings or loading bays for new blocks. Our Euro 6 vans are ULEZ compliant, and any Congestion Charge is handled by us.

  3. Load in Glasgow

The crew arrives from 07:00 on day one, wraps and straps everything, and loads the van so the items you need first come off first. We head south by late morning and text you our progress and the planned arrival time.

  4. Unload in London

We arrive early on day two, park on the suspended bay, carry everything in and rebuild beds and wardrobes. For a one-day move the unload happens in the evening with the same care, then the crew stops overnight before heading back north.

FAQ

Glasgow to London questions

Can you do Glasgow to London in one day?
For a one-bed flat or a small load, yes, with a 06:00 start in Glasgow and an evening unload in London. Anything bigger is done properly over two days with a secure overnight for the van, because unloading a family home at ten at night in a residents' zone is not a good experience for anyone.
Do you offer part-loads to London?
Yes. If you have a one-bed flat or less we can combine your move with another heading south, which shares the mileage and brings the price down to around £600. You need some flexibility on the date, usually a window of a few days, and Peter will tell you what is coming up.
What about insurance for a long-distance move?
Goods in transit cover is available from your Glasgow door to your London door, including the overnight, and Peter explains the cover level and any excess when he quotes. The van is locked and alarmed overnight and your load is never split between vehicles on a dedicated move.
Are your vans ULEZ compliant?
Yes. Our vans are Euro 6 diesel, which meets the ULEZ standard, so no daily charge applies and nothing is passed on to you. If your address is inside the central Congestion Charge zone that is a separate charge on weekdays and we include it in your written quote.
Can you help with a parking suspension in London?
We tell you exactly what to apply for, which bays and for how long, and you apply to the borough as the resident. Most councils need seven to ten days and charge a fee that varies by borough. If a suspension is not possible we plan the carry and price it honestly rather than hoping for a gap.
